Devon won by two wickets shortly after 6.15 pm on the first day. The margin of victory was the second closest of the season for a team successfully chasing a fourth innings target. When the visitors began their second innings, they required 77 runs to win with 75 minutes of play remaining on the first day. The pitch started to crumble from early on and was the subject of much criticism from both sides. It was described as 'wretched' by several players and others said that it was the worst they had played on all season. No batsmen scored fifty, with the top scores being 34 by Light for Devon and 31 by Hawken for Cornwall.
Light's 34 contained 1 six and 6 fours. There was talk about moving the fixture with Carmarthenshire due to be played at Camborne at the beginning of August, but it came to nothing.
