For the visitors, Barnes took 7 wickets for 71 in the Surrey 2nd XI first innings. Brown carried his bat for the second time in the season, his 91 not out containing 7 fours scored in 4½ hours. Briggs scored 59. In the Staffordshire first innings, Briggs and Brown had an opening partnership of 101 runs.
