Worcestershire won by an innings and 106 runs at 4.00 pm on the second day, after Hertfordshire followed-on 168 runs behind. The margin of victory was the second highest of the season. For the victors, there were 34 fours, 7 threes and 3 twos in Foster's 176, an innings of just 130 minutes. For the second Championship innings running, he broke the record for the highest individual innings in the Championship. He and Wheldon put on 109 for the third Worcestershire wicket. The latter's 81 included 1 six and 10 fours. For Hertfordshire, H Pigg's 75 contained 9 fours. In the Hertfordshire first innings H Pigg and Wright added over 50 runs for the seventh wicket. Hertfordshire newspaper reports suggest that Foster should have been given out caught at the wicket by the Worcestershire umpire when he had scored 3. Foster's 176 runs were also a new run aggregate record for a competition match, exceeding the 172 runs scored by Hollowood for Staffordshire v Northumberland at Heaton in July. Hunt had not arrived at the ground when the Worcestershire innings ended at 4.30 pm on the first day.
[Missing: Second umpire; part fall of wickets; in Hertfordshire 1st inns size of 7th wicket partnership between H Pigg and Wright.]
