This return match was drawn with Staffordshire winning on first innings. The game between the two teams at Stoke in June had been won by Staffordshire. For the visitors, Barnes's 99 and Fereday's 95 both contained 9 fours. In the Staffordshire first innings, they added 160 runs for the third wicket. For Lancashire 2nd XI, there was 1 five and 6 fours in Heap's 65. H Rhodes of Bury started for Lancashire 2nd XI in this match but, after an hour's fielding, split his left hand making a stop. Stratton allowed Bell of Burnley to take his place. Some Staffordshire commentators were critical of this decision, though it was popular with the spectators. Barnes had played a ball onto his knee when batting and did not field on the first day. The injury limited his bowling on the second day.
