Biography:Succeeded his father as 4th Baron Harris of Seringapatam and Mysore, and of Belmont, in November 1872. Conservative junior minister India Office 1885-86 and War Office 1886-89. Governor of Bombay 1890-95. Lord-in-Waiting (government Whip) 1895-1900. Chairman, South African Consolidated Goldfields; Director, London, Chatham and Dover Railway and other companies. Appointed GCIE 1890, GCSI 1895 for services to the government of India, and CB 1918 for services to the Territorial Army in Kent. Chairman, County Cricket Council 1887-89. President of MCC 1895-96 (the first Test cricketer to hold the post), and MCC Treasurer 1916-32.
