Tributes came pouring in once Anil decided to call it quits at Kotla.The players carried him on his shoulders. Dhoni,Rahul,Zaheer and Laxman were the ones who did so. It was an extremely emotional moment for the public at Kotla. The players ,his contemporaries and his opponents showered praises on him.

The Australian captain Ricky Ponting said that he is one of the contemporary greats to have played the game. He wished him and his family well for the future. The Australian players shook hands with him after the end of the test match showing that sportsman spirit was still a part of the game.

Chairman of selectors Srikanth felt he was a great ambassador of the game.The way he conducted himself on and off the field was impeccable and his contribution to Indian cricket is unmatched.

Legendary batsmen G.R.Viswanath felt he was one of the greats of the game and he must have thought his decision through.
Former left arm spinner Bishen Singh Bedi lauded Kumble's efforts saying that his retirement was imminent his fitness and injury worries.His commitment to the game was unparalleled.

Former captain Kapil Dev said very few cricketers compare to him.He said that he was one cricketer who won the maximum matches for India.

Former great Sunil Gavaskar said that his determination, grit and commitment has made him a legend.

Former left arm spinner Ravi Shastri praised his work ethics and said that he was a giant of Indian cricket.

Karnataka off spinner Erappali Prassana lauded Kumble's contribution to the game.He said he was one who made maximum use of his talent.
Former Pakistani great Imran Khan said that Anil Kumble is a legend and his contributions to Indian cricket is unparalleled.

His contemporaries Sachin, Rahul, Laxman and Saurav hailed him as a legend of Indian cricket.They felt that he was a match winner and his boots would be hard to fill.
