Bacup Cricket Club is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former player Ronnie Kershaw in Kettering, where he lived, at the age of 78.

Ronnie played for Lancashire Schoolboys and remarkably made his debut in 1959 at the age of only 14. The following year he played several games in the championship winning team alongside West Indies Test Match fast bowler Roy Gilchrist.

In 187 games Ronnie scored 1370 runs at 12.34 and took 113 wickets at 20.11. He played until 1976 before moving away from the area.

As well as being a member of the 1960 Championship winning team Ronnie represented the club in four Worsley Cup Finals picking up a winners medal in 1972 at East Lancs.

Ronnie's sons John and Andrew also played for Bacup with John going on to play for Rawtenstall, where Ronnie's grandsons Sam and Matthew now both play.

Our condolences go to John, Andrew and all of the family.
