Day 2 of ICC Americas Central Division’s under 15 cricket tournament produced an exciting finish today at Haynes Oval in Nassau, Bahamas. Having won the toss and electing to bat Belize got off to a fantastic start. After losing the first wicket at 31 runs, opener Lamont Russell and Jermel Flowers combined for a solid 59 run second wicket partnership to take the score to 90 runs for 2 wickets in 17 overs, putting Belize in a commanding position. Cayman then clawed back with four quick wickets, thereby restricting Belize to just 35 runs in the last 13 overs. Belize’s final total was 125 runs for six wickets in the allotted 30 overs, with 54 runs from Russell and 25 runs from Flowers. Russell’s knock produced the only half century of the tournament to date and included 10 fours. Joneil Bent was responsible for 4 wickets that resulted in the best bowling performance for Cayman ( 4 wickets for 14 runs in 6 overs). Paul Laidlaw bagged two wickets.

Cayman started the run chase confidently with its openers posting 35 runs before the fall of the first wicket. The next three wickets fell cheaply and Cayman suddenly saw the scoreboard reading 60 runs for 4 wickets and momentum appeared to be shifting towards Belize. Then skipper Santangelo Bush and Edward Bodden stitched a 45 run partnership taking the total to 105 runs for 5 wickets. The next few overs again generated some nervous moments for Cayman until they edged Belize with 11 balls to spare. The final score was 126 runs for 6 wickets in 28.1 overs resulting in a 4 wicket victory for Cayman. Bodden remained unbeaten on 33 runs (including 5 fours) and Bush contributed 24 runs in the winning effort. The best bowler for Belize was Jerry Cassasola who grabbed 2 wickets for 27 runs in 6 overs.

Host nation Bahamas will face Belize on Friday with the match starting at 11.00 am at Haynes Oval.
