TURNER, John.
Amateur.
Born at Northampton, 1st November 1854.
Died at Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex, 22nd October 1912.
He played in twenty first-class matches 1876-83, mostly for the MCC His county cricket was for Northamptonshire (1873-88) and Bedfordshire (1881-94). Little more is known of this man.
At the time of the 1881 Census there are 81 John Turners listed, of which only three are born in Northampton within one year of 1854. One is a navvy aged 26 (one year too young), one is a shoemaker, born Kettering, aged 28 (one year too young). The third John Turner lived at 4 School Lane, Kettering, Northamptonshire, aged 27, a shoe rivetter, with his wife Mary A., aged 27 born Kettering, a tailoress. It is probably him.
