FRANK, Joseph.
Amateur.
Born at Helmsley, Yorkshire, 27th December 1857.
Died at Helmsley, Yorkshire, 22nd October 1940.
The second son of William Frank, of Bridge House, Helmsley, he was educated at Bishopton Close, Ripon, Yorkshire. He, his elder brother Benjamin and his father were all good club cricketers. He played mostly with Duncombe Park. In total he played in seven first-class matches, one in 1881, for Yorkshire. His bowling action was suspect and when he played for Scarborough & District against the Australians in 1880 he damaged Spofforths finger and prevented him from playing in the Oval Test.
His cousin R.W.Frank of Pickering played 19 times for Yorkshire and captained the Yorkshire 2nd XI 1900-14. Joseph was a successful timber merchant.
At the time of the 1881 Census he was living with his widower father, aged 50, a timber merchant. His brother Benjamin, aged 26, was a bank manager and Joseph, aged 23, a timber merchant. They are both unmarried as are his two sisters Amelia aged 19 and Liley aged 18. There are two domestic servants and a visitor, Frances Robinson, a girl aged 9.
