  • This was the 2006th match in One-Day International cricket history.
  • Saurav Ganguly now has 1229 runs from 25 matches against South Africa which takes him past Mohammad Azharuddin’s run-aggregate against that country. Now only Sachin Tendulkar (1326 runs in 41 matches) has scored more runs against South Africa.
  • Dinesh Mongia, on 1, completed his 1000 runs in ODIs. He was playing his 47th match (and 42nd innings). He became 23rd Indian and 180th batsman overall to achieve this milestone.
  • Alan Dawson (4-49) became 21st South African to take a four-wicket haul. His previous best was 3 for 26 against Zimbabwe at Nairobi Gym on 28-09-1999 and also against Bangladesh at Dhaka on 14-04-2003.
  • The 107-run partnership between Neil McKenzie and Mark Boucher was South Africa’s best for the fifth wicket against India. This obliterated the previous record stand of 102 (unbeaten) between Hansie Cronje and Jonty Rhodes at Bloemfontein on 23-01-1997.
  • The wicket of McKenzie was 100th for Harbhajan Singh in ODIs. He became tenth Indian and 66th bowler overall to reach this landmark.
  • At 22 years 289 days, Harbhajan became the youngest Indian to complete his century of wickets. The previous record was held by Ajit Agarkar who was 23 years 4 days old while taking his 100th wicket (v Zimbabwe at Jodhpur on 08-12-2000). Incidentally Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq at 20 years 166 days is the youngest bowler to do so.
  • The defeat was India's only third in last 15 matches.
  • McKenzie won his fifth MoM award in 55th match.
