A tidy medium paced bowler, Ashish Patel is somewhat of an oddity in the Canadian team, hailing from Quebec. Given an opportunity to play for the national team after the unavailability of a number of players for the 2001/02 Americas Cup, he took 7 wickets at an average of 15 in the tournament, bowling particularly well against the USA. He followed this up with a strong showing in the Six Nations Challenge in Namibia, dismissing Tikolo and Odumbe of Kenya; and taking 3 wickets against Namibia
